Vice President Launches AI Chatbot ‘Nyaya Setu’ to Improve Access to Justice in India

The launch took place during the National Consultation 2026 on the Tele-Law initiative, organized by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

This initiative is part of the DISHA (Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice) scheme, which focuses on improving access to justice through technology and innovation.

What is ‘Nyaya Setu’?

‘Nyaya Setu’ is an AI-powered chatbot designed to act as a digital bridge between citizens and the legal system. It aims to provide:

• Guidance on legal rights
• Pre-litigation advice to resolve disputes early

By offering quick and reliable legal assistance, the chatbot is expected to reduce unnecessary court cases and ease the burden on India’s judicial system.

The Vice President also spoke about the growing role of technology in governance. He cited successful initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and telemedicine as examples of how digital solutions can improve service delivery.

Apart from Nyaya Setu, several other initiatives were introduced:

• “Voice of Beneficiaries” Booklet 2025–26, highlighting real-life success stories
• Nyaya Setu mascot to promote public engagement
• Legal awareness comic books developed in collaboration with National Law University, Delhi

The event was also attended by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, along with other dignitaries.
